Is this an education?

Thought I’d reblog this post as there’s a lot there for Careers advisers who will know this story well. The tensions between student knowledge of the consequences of Year 9 option choices, the wish for a broad curriculum and the pressures on schools to meet targets which then shape the KS4 routes on offer to groups of students. I also think it’s a realistic example of how lots of IAG happens in schools.

  1. very interesting Russell, although the rest of the blog looked about Govey to me. I like your point about the realities of IAG happening amongst other interactions. It doesn’t address broader reasons why Jayme chose those options – can it all be down to the school? What about her wider community and other factors which have shaped her identity and worldview. No doubt we will be seeing her on X factor auditions soon…..good luck to her.
